Affairs to Remember

Top Ten Ideas for the Best Party Ever

by Judy Marcus

Cabaret Concerts

Last February, when I first heard French cabaret singer Claudia Hommel at one of the Parisian Salon Concerts in Lake Forest, I was researching ideas for this story. Hommel was so spectacular, so commanding a presence, my immediate thought was: does she perform at private affairs? Thankfully for party-givers and goers, she does.

Claudia Hommel

Hommel has a smooth, rich voice. She is at once sexy and sophisticated, stunning in an Audrey Hepburn sort of way. Unlike the Masqued Phoenix Consort, Hommel states blatantly, "I am not background music." I'd have to agree.

Her clients — usually those who have caught her act at various venues about town — have invited her to perform at large hotel galas as well as intimate house parties. Hommel's fans describe her as charming, lyrical, and playful in the way she acts out each song she sings. The vocalist specializes in French chanson, with a sprinkling of American jazz standards. Costs vary, but for a private party for 10 to 12, expect to pay about $500. Call 773/509-9360 or visit Claudia Hommel ([email protected]).
